New Captains Commissioned

The journey begins today,” said Commissioner Stanslous Mutewera, Territorial Commander, as he commissioned and ordained 35 new captains to serve as officers in The Salvation Army. “God has called you and equipped you. I pray that he will give you the power and the strength you need to faithfully fulfil your new responsibilities.”

The captains follow in the footsteps of previous Salvation Army officers who have served, and continue to serve, in our churches, schools, hospitals, social institutions and administrative centres.

Commissioning & Ordination

Prior to their ordination and commissioning, the cadets of the God’s Fellow Workers Session entered an intensive 18-month training programme. “Our new captains possess the necessary skills and spiritual maturity required to serve confidently, competently and Christlike in the field,” said Major Eleckson Rutanhira, Training Principal. Restoration to Hope

More than 6,500 Zimbabwean youth descended on Mkoba Teachers College (Midlands Division), braving the Gweru cold for the Territorial Youth Councils. While there were many special guests in attendance, mission took centre stage as youth engaged in worship, teaching sessions and fellowship.

On the Saturday afternoon, the youth took a proactive stance by going out to four different open-airs, leaving the whole of Mkoba dumbfounded with the sheer numbers of young Salvationists. The Territorial Commander, Commissioner Stanslous Mutewera, reminded the youth that “this is mission time and everyone has a duty to do something! We must go where God sends us, and we must be people of action!” Lt-Colonel Peter Dali, Chief Secretary, also encouraged the youth to be mobilized for mission.
