The Territorial Officers’ Councils were marked by a high turnout as active and retired officers gathered together at Mazowe High School for worship, teaching sessions, shared learning and corporate prayer. In his keynote address, Commissioner S. Mutewera, former Territorial Commander, said that lack of funding had prevented the territory from holding officers’ councils since 2002, but that thanks to a donor, the event could now be held.
“We have gathered as a family to share our experiences in the mission so that we will uphold, comfort, learn and strengthen each other as a family of Salvationists,” said Commissioner Mutewera. He encouraged unity amongst officers so that they would live as one family, and expressed sadness over the loss of over 20 officers who had passed away since the last officers’ councils. He also highlighted the international appointments of Zimbabwean officers and the retirements of officers from active service.
In the Welcome Meeting, Lt-Colonel P. Dali, Chief Secretary, spoke from John 1:1-18 and
outlined the following gifts that we have received from God: a) The right to become children of God; b) Grace upon grace; and c) Jesus making himself known to us personally. The Chief Secretary also emphasized that we should strive to live up to the standards Christ set for us.
The key focus of the week-long programme was education and training, with the following
teaching sessions presented to delegates: “An officer and his goal setting” by Major L. Kazimpingani, Secretary for Personnel; “Identification marks of The Salvation Army” by Major C. Chinyemba, Secretary for Programme; “The Salvation Army leader and his family” by Major C. Kamambo, Secretary for Business Administration; “Community development” by Captain C. Chizengeya, Projects Officer; “Investing in a hyper inflationary market” by Mrs. Muza; and “The Territorial Strategic Plan 2007–2012” by the Strategic Plan Implementation Team.
Delegates returned to their appointments blessed and rejuvenated, thankful for the opportunity to have shared in praise and fellowship.
