Commissioners Mutewera Retire

Commissioners Stanslous and Jannet Mutewera retired officially on 16 December 2007 at Harare City Sports Centre after serving a combined ministry of 71 years. The retirement ceremony was witnessed by many Salvationists of the Zimbabwe & Botswana Territory. Also in attendance were government officials, including Vice President Joice Mujuru and Governor Masawi of Mashonaland Central Province. The meeting was conducted by Commissioners Alex and Ingerborg Hughes from the United Kingdom Territory. Commissioners Amos and Rosemary Makina, International Secretaries for Africa, also participated in the event.

Commissioner A. Hughes described the event as one of the best retirement services he had ever attended, characterised by beautiful singing and enthusiastic worship. Commissioner A. Hughes likened Commissioner S. Mutewera to the Old Testament character Caleb, who served God wholeheartedly and faithfully. Commissioner I. Hughes described Comissioner J. Billions Raised in Thanksgiving

The Thanksgiving Appeal is an opportunity for praise, joy and celebration, and to thank God for all that he has done for us,” said Major Casman Chinyemba, Secretary for Programme Administration.

Held at Harare Polytechnic, the Thanksgiving Ingathering saw every division, area and district exceeding their projected targets. Leading the way was the Greater Harare Division contributing $7,200,000,000 ZWD. Trailing close behind was the Matebeleland Division, with $6,839,061,672. In total the 18 division/areas/districts raised $46,976,497,302. Together with the Army’s schools, social centres and OTC, the thanksgiving totals amounted to $47,895,050,802. Even with the current inflationary concerns facing the territory, Salvationists showed no hesitation in giving to their church.

In addition to the financial offerings, the Thanksgiving Ingathering also highlighted the increases in membership across the territory. Mazowe Achieves Excellence

Dr Stephen M. Mahere, Zimbabwe’s Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture, presented The Salvation Army’s Mazowe High School with the Secretary’s Merit Award. Also known as the Secretary’s Bell, the award is the highest honour that can be given to a school by the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture.

The Permanent Secretary traveled to Mazowe High to personally unveil the Secretary’s Bell plaque at their annual Award and Prize Giving Ceremony. Recognizing Mazowe’s high academic standards, Dr Mahere highlighted the 100% pass for “A” level subjects, and the 84.5% pass rate for “O” level subjects. Continue reading ‘Mazowe Achieves Excellence’
